A Genuine Japanese-Market 2AZ-FE, Not a US Rebuild
This is a used 2AZ-FE 2.4L four-cylinder engine pulled from a Japanese-market Toyota and imported directly to our Belleville, New Jersey facility. Japanese vehicles come off the road early — the Shaken inspection regime gets expensive as a car ages, and average annual driving distance in Japan is low. That is why imported engines routinely run far fewer miles than a domestic used engine at the same price.
Every engine we sell is compression-tested and visually inspected before it is listed. We do not sell cores, we do not sell untested pulls, and we do not rebuild — what you receive is a complete, running Japanese engine. Mileage on any imported engine is an estimate based on the donor vehicle rather than a verified odometer reading, which is exactly why we test every unit before it goes on the site.
Why Camry Owners Replace the 2AZ-FE Instead of Repairing It
The 2AZ-FE has two well-documented weaknesses in US-market cars, and both are why this listing exists:
- Excessive oil consumption. 2007-2009 Camrys develop piston and oil-control-ring wear that leads to heavy oil burn. Toyota addressed it under Warranty Enhancement Program ZE7, which replaced pistons and rings and ran to 10 years or 150,000 miles. Most of those cars are now well past that window, and the repair is out of pocket.
- Stripped cylinder head bolt threads. The 2AZ-FE uses an aluminum block, and the head bolt threads can pull out, causing head gasket failure and coolant loss. Toyota’s T-SB-0015-11 covers repairing the block with steel thread inserts — but that is a service bulletin, not extended coverage, and it is machine-shop labor you pay for.
In both cases a shop quote for the repair frequently lands close to, or above, the cost of a low-mileage replacement engine. A JDM 2AZ-FE is generally the faster and cheaper path back on the road.
What’s Included
- Complete engine: cylinder head and block with all internal rotating components
- Intake manifold
- Fuel injectors
- Ignition coils
- Alternator
- 2.4L, 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve, with VVT-i
Not included: transmission, ECU, wiring harness, A/C compressor, power steering pump, exhaust manifold, starter.
Installation Notes — Read Before You Buy
- Sensors and accessories: transfer your existing sensors, brackets, and accessories from the original engine. JDM sensor connectors are not always a direct match.
- Intake manifold: the included Japanese intake manifold may differ from your US unit. Many installers reuse the original US intake to avoid emissions and connector mismatches.
- Professional installation is required. Warranty coverage is void if the engine is installed by anyone other than a licensed repair facility.
🚗 Confirmed Fitment
This 2AZ-FE fits the following applications. If your vehicle is on this list, this engine will physically bolt in with the notes above.
| Vehicle | Years | Engine |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Camry | 2002-2009 | 2.4L 2AZ-FE |
| Toyota Camry Solara | 2002-2008 | 2.4L 2AZ-FE |
| Toyota Highlander | 2001-2007 | 2.4L 2AZ-FE |
Not sure if yours matches? On a 2002-2009 Camry, the 5th digit of the VIN tells you the engine: E = 2.4L 2AZ-FE (this engine). A K in that position is the 3.5L V6 2GR-FE, and B is the Camry Hybrid’s 2AZ-FXE — neither is this engine. Not sure? Call (877) 955-9556 with your VIN and we will confirm fitment before you order.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Will a JDM 2AZ-FE fit my 2007 Toyota Camry?
Yes. The 2AZ-FE is the same engine family used in all 2002-2009 Camry 2.4L four-cylinder models. It bolts to your existing transmission and mounts. Expect to transfer your front timing chain cover and sensors from the original engine.
Does this engine come with the transmission?
No. This listing is for the engine only — cylinder head and block with internal components, plus intake manifold, injectors, coils, and alternator. Your existing transmission bolts directly to it.
How many miles are on a JDM 2AZ-FE engine?
Typically an estimated 50,000 to 75,000 miles. Japanese vehicles leave the road early because of Shaken inspection costs and low average annual mileage, so imported engines generally run far lower than domestic used engines at the same price. Mileage on any imported engine is an estimate based on the donor vehicle, not a verified odometer reading, which is why every engine we sell is compression-tested before listing.
Do I need to change the timing cover?
When selecting this particular item, no. While JDM 2AZ-FE blocks may use a different front timing chain cover than the US-market version, we will be sure to send the one that correctly matches up with your given application.
Will my check engine light come on after installing a JDM engine?
Not if the swap is done correctly. Transfer your original sensors, and in most cases your original intake manifold, so the factory ECU sees the same signals it expects. Codes after a JDM swap almost always trace to a sensor or connector that was not transferred.
Is a used JDM engine better than rebuilding my 2AZ-FE?
It depends on the failure, but for the two most common 2AZ-FE problems — oil consumption from worn piston rings, and stripped cylinder head bolt threads in the aluminum block — a rebuild involves machine work that often costs as much as or more than a low-mileage replacement engine. Also, the common problems that were known on the USDM engines have not carried over to the JDM engines. Get a quote for both before deciding.
What warranty comes with the engine?
90 days from delivery, covering internal moving components of the cylinder head and block. Professional installation by a licensed shop is required. Bolt-on accessories, sensors, seals, gaskets, and labor are not covered. Full terms are below.
How is the engine shipped?
By freight, 2-10 business days, to a commercial address with a loading dock or forklift. Residential delivery is possible but requires an additional lift-gate charge. The engine ships on a pallet at roughly 400 lbs.
