When something goes wrong

We’ve been importing and selling JDM engines out of Belleville for over a decade, and we’ve sold a lot of them. Most go in and run. A small number don’t, and those customers have written about it publicly. We’re not going to pretend otherwise.

Nearly every dispute we’ve had comes down to the same thing: what the warranty covers, and what we need from you to honor it. A used imported engine is not a new engine, and the claim process has requirements. If you know them going in, there’s rarely a problem. If you find out about them after your engine is already apart on a shop floor, it feels like a runaround. So here they are up front.

How a warranty claim works

  1. Install by a qualified shop. The engine needs to be installed by a professional mechanic for the warranty to apply.
  2. Call us before you tear anything down. Contact us the moment you suspect a problem. Do not disassemble the engine first — that ends the claim.
  3. Send photos and a work order. We ask for photographs of the issue and a written work order from an ASE-certified mechanic describing the fault. This is how we verify the engine failed rather than the installation.
  4. We review and respond. If the claim checks out, we replace the unit under the terms of your warranty.

We ask for the mechanic’s work order on every claim, without exception. It isn’t a stalling tactic — it’s the only way to tell an engine fault from an install fault, and it protects the customers who did everything right.

Warranty length varies by product. See our full warranty policy for the terms that apply to the engine you’re buying, and check the product page before you order.

What ships with your engine

It depends on what you’re buying, so check the individual product page before you order.

Complete engines ship dressed, with accessories such as the intake manifold, injectors, coils, and alternator attached.

Bare long blocks ship as a long block only — no intake manifold, injectors, coils, or alternator. If you’re buying a long block, plan on transferring those parts off your original engine.

What’s included varies by listing. The product page for the unit you’re looking at is the authority on what comes with it.

Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your delivery address.

Common questions

Is JDM Engine Depot legitimate?

Yes. JDM Engine Depot Inc is a registered New Jersey business operating out of a warehouse and storefront at 1 Montgomery St, Belleville, NJ 07109. You’re welcome to walk in during business hours and look at the inventory before you buy — a lot of our customers do exactly that.

Do you test engines before selling them?

We compression check our units, and customers regularly confirm it independently after delivery.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes. We ship across the continental United States, including directly to your dealership or repair shop. Freight is calculated at checkout based on the delivery address.

Can I buy in person?

Yes. Our Belleville, NJ storefront is open to walk-ins Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Where do the engines come from?

They’re low-mileage units imported directly from Japan, where vehicle inspection rules push engines out of service far earlier than they would be here.
