JDM J30A 3.0L V6 VCM Engine – 2005-2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L & Touring (J35A7 Replacement)
This is a low-mileage JDM J30A 3.0L V6 VCM engine imported from Japan, sold as a direct replacement for the 3.5L J35A7 found in 2005-2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L and Touring models. If your Odyssey is burning oil, fouling plugs, or has failed compression on the original J35A7, this is the swap most owners land on — and it costs a fraction of a rebuild or a dealer long block.
Compression checked and inspected before it leaves our warehouse in Belleville, NJ. In stock and ready to ship.

It is the same engine across every year, trim, and VIN combination above. Do not order it for any other year, trim, or Honda model. Why Owners Replace the J35A7 With a J30A
The 2005-2006 Odyssey EX-L and Touring were the first Odysseys to run Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management system on the 3.5L J35A7. On higher-mileage examples, that system is associated with heavy oil consumption, fouled spark plugs, and eventual piston ring wear — usually showing up as blue smoke, a persistent low-oil light, or a misfire code that keeps returning after new plugs.
At that point you have three options: rebuild the original engine, buy a remanufactured long block, or drop in a low-mileage import. This J30A is the third option. It is the same J-series V6 family, it runs the VCM system, and Japanese-market engines arrive with far lower mileage than comparable domestic units because of Japan’s vehicle inspection regime.
The tradeoff to understand up front: you are going from 3.5 liters to 3.0 liters. You will notice slightly less power, most obviously when the van is loaded or climbing. Most buyers decide a healthy 3.0L is worth more than a worn 3.5L. But you should go in knowing it.
What’s Included
- Complete J30A engine — cylinder heads and block with all internal moving components
- Intake manifold
- Fuel injectors
- Ignition coils
- Alternator
Not included: transmission, fluids.
Photos on this listing are representative samples of the unit being shipped. The accessories listed above ship attached to the engine as a convenience and are not covered under warranty — coverage applies to internal moving components of the head(s) and block only.
Before You Install
Read this before your mechanic starts. It is the difference between a swap that lasts and a warranty claim.
- Service the timing belt and water pump first. The J30A is a timing-belt engine. Regardless of the mileage on the unit you receive, replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler pulleys while the engine is out and accessible. This is a few hours on the bench versus a full engine pull later. A belt failure is not a warranty event, and it will destroy the engine.
- Replace the wear items while access is easy. Spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, thermostat, front crank seal, and the accessory drive belt are all far cheaper to do now than after the engine is in the bay.
- Use a certified mechanic. Installation must be performed by a certified mechanic within the warranty period. Self-installs and installs by uncertified parties void coverage.
- Prime the oil system before first start. Fill with fresh oil and a new filter, then crank with the ignition disabled until oil pressure registers. Do not fire a freshly installed engine dry.
- Verify before you button up. Check for leaks, confirm coolant is filled and burped of air, and confirm oil pressure at idle before taking it on the road.
Warranty & Shipping
This engine carries a 90-day start-up warranty on internal moving components of the head(s) and block only, beginning from the delivery date. Manifolds, fuel rails, sensors, pumps, external accessories, and labor are not covered. See the Warranty tab for full terms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this J30A fit my 2005 Honda Odyssey?
It fits 2005-2006 Odyssey EX-L and Touring models. If your van is a 2005 or 2006 EX-L or Touring, yes. It does not fit other trims, other years, or other Honda models.
Does it fit the 2005-2006 Odyssey LX or EX?
No. This engine is sold as a replacement for the J35A7 found in the EX-L and Touring trims only.
Is this the right engine for my VIN?
This same J30A covers VIN 8th digit 6 and 7 on EX-L models and VIN 8th digit 8 on Touring models, across both 2005 and 2006. It is one engine for all of those combinations. Call us with your VIN if you want it confirmed before ordering.
Is this a direct replacement for the J35A7?
Yes. It is sold specifically as a 3.0L replacement for the 3.5L J35A7 in these vans.
Do I need to modify or reflash the ECU?
No. Your Odyssey’s original ECU runs this engine as-is. No reflash, no ECU swap, no tuning required.
Will I lose power going from 3.5L to 3.0L?
Yes, some. You are dropping half a liter of displacement, most noticeable under load or on grades. Most buyers accept this over running a worn 3.5L.
Why would I put a smaller engine in my van?
Because a healthy 3.0L outperforms a 3.5L that is burning oil and misfiring, and because this swap costs a fraction of a rebuild or a remanufactured long block.
Does this engine have VCM?
Yes. This J30A is a Variable Cylinder Management engine.
What mileage is on the engine?
Approximately 50,000 to 75,000 miles. These are Japanese domestic market engines, which typically come out of service at far lower mileage than comparable US-market units.
Is the transmission included?
No. This listing is for the engine only.
What accessories come attached?
Every J30A we ship includes the intake manifold, fuel injectors, ignition coils, and alternator. These are provided as-is and are not covered under warranty — coverage applies to internal moving components of the head(s) and block only.
What will I need to transfer from my old engine?
Less than most people expect. The engine arrives with the intake manifold, injectors, coils, and alternator already on it. Your mechanic will still move over the remaining accessories and brackets from your original engine. Have your installer lay the two engines side by side and confirm before the old one comes out.
Is it plug and play?
Mechanically it is the correct engine for the application, and it comes with the intake manifold, injectors, coils, and alternator already installed, so there is less to move over than on a bare long block. It is still a professional shop job: expect to transfer the remaining accessories and to service wear items before it goes in.
Do I need to replace the timing belt?
Yes, and do it before installation. The J30A is a timing-belt engine. Replace the belt, water pump, tensioner, and idlers while the engine is out. A belt failure after install is not covered by warranty and will destroy the engine.
Should I replace the water pump too?
Yes. It is driven by the timing belt, so it is essentially free labor while the belt is off and expensive labor later.
How long is the warranty?
90 days from the delivery date, covering internal moving components of the head(s) and block only.
What voids the warranty?
Installation by anyone other than a certified mechanic, installation outside the 90-day window, overheating, oil starvation, timing belt failure, and improper installation.
Does the warranty cover labor?
No. Labor, installation costs, towing, and rental vehicles are not covered.
Are the sensors and manifolds covered?
No. Warranty covers internal moving components of the head(s) and block only.
How is the engine shipped?
Crated, by freight truck, from our Belleville, NJ warehouse. Approximately 500 lbs. Shipping is calculated separately from the engine price.
How long does shipping take?
Typically 2-10 business days.
Can it be delivered to my house?
Residential orders are routed to the freight terminal nearest you for pickup. Direct delivery is available to commercial addresses with a loading dock. All deliveries are curbside.
What if the engine arrives damaged?
Inspect the shipment before signing the delivery receipt and note any damage on the receipt at the time of delivery. Without that notation, a freight claim is very difficult to pursue.
Can I get help confirming fitment before I order?
Yes. Call (877) 955-9556 with your VIN and we will confirm before you buy.
